Welcome New Families

Thank you for choosing Pathways. We are dedicated to supporting your child in reaching their goals, and we strive to make every step of the process a positive, engaging experience for your whole family.

Most assessments are approximately one hour; however, every child’s needs are unique, and additional time may be required to complete the assessment or prepare a report if requested or clinically necessary. At the end of your appointment, you and your therapist will review the results together and discuss the most appropriate next steps for your child.

Note: No referral is required.

If you do not see an appointment time that works for your schedule, please complete the Waitlist Intake Form at the bottom of this page. If you haven’t heard from us within two weeks, we welcome you to give us a call.

We offer comprehensive speech and language assessments for children of all ages, along with ongoing private therapy for families who would like support.

You do not need a referral to get started. Families are welcome to use private insurance benefits or pay privately for services.

PUF & Mild/Moderate Assessments Starting April 1, 2026

We offer comprehensive Speech Language assessments for preschool aged children. These assessments may also be used for PUF (Program Unit Funding) or Mild/Moderate (MM) funding applications if your child’s scores indicate eligibility.

Who Is Eligible for PUF or MM Funding?

Children who will be between 2 years 8 months and less than 6 years on August 31, 2026 and attend a registered preschool/daycare may qualify for Alberta Education funding. Alberta Education accepts assessments completed between April 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026 so families can prepare for the 2026–2027 school year.

How These Assessments Can Be Used

Our preschool assessments are designed to give families a clear understanding of their child’s communication strengths and needs. If the results show that your child meets Alberta Education criteria, you may use the report to apply for PUF or Mild/Moderate funding.

Important notes for families:

  • We do not share your child’s information with any school or program.
  • You decide if, when, and where to share the report.
  • You remain fully in control of your child’s information and next steps.

What We Assess

Our preschool assessments cover the communication areas recognized by Alberta Education, including:

  • Speech Sound Disorders
  • Language Disorders
  • Fluency / Stuttering

What You’ll Receive

Every assessment includes:

  • A 1 hour assessment with a certified Speech Language Pathologist
  • A comprehensive written report aligned with Alberta Education expectations
  • Clear recommendations to support your child’s early learning
  • A report you can submit to a PUF or MM program (if you choose)

Payment & Insurance

Families are welcome to use their private insurance benefits to help cover the cost of the assessment.

PUF & Mild/Moderate Assessments Starting April 1, 2026

If your child’s teacher has suggested an assessment or if you need updated scores to share with the school, we can help. Our school aged assessments provide clear, standardized information to support your child’s learning and communication needs.

Why Families Book These Assessments

Many parents reach out when:

  • A teacher or learning support team recommends updated assessment results
  • A school requests standardized scores for planning or intervention
  • A child is experiencing challenges with communication, reading, or writing
  • Families want clarity about their child’s strengths and areas of need

We provide standardized speech, language and/or literacy assessments, followed by a detailed written report that includes scores, interpretation, recommendations, and suggested goals.

Confidential & Parent Controlled

Your child’s information is always private.

  • We do not share assessment results with any school or program.
  • You choose if, when, and with whom to share the report.

This ensures you remain fully in control of your child’s information and next steps.

What to Expect

Our school aged assessments begin with a 1 hour visit with a certified Speech Language Pathologist.

Because standardized assessments for older children can be more in depth, some children may require a second visit to complete all testing. We will let you know if an additional session is needed.

After the assessment is complete, you will receive a comprehensive written report, including:

  • Standardized scores
  • Interpretation of results
  • Recommendations for home and school
  • Suggested goals to support learning and communication

What We Assess

We offer standardized assessments in the following areas:

  • Speech Sound Disorders
  • Language Disorders (expressive, receptive, or both)
  • Fluency / Stuttering
  • Literacy / Reading / Writing Disorders

Payment & Insurance

Families are welcome to use their private insurance benefits to help cover the cost of the assessment.

• Cost: up to $700

Supporting Your Child’s Success at School

Our goal is to help families understand their child’s communication profile and ensure teachers have the information they need—when you choose to share it. Whether you’re responding to a school request or seeking clarity for your own peace of mind, we’re here to support you.
